A History:
Samuel Ruggles first brought arabica coffee to Kona in 1828 and it became adaptable due to Kona's unique climate and rich volcanic soil. Starting in the 1880's a real commercial industry was beginnig to grow where coffee plantations were readily built. Mills started being built and in the 1930's Kona Coffee was one of the most prosperous products on the islands. Kona Coffee Farmer's Association was born where all farmers could grow and sell their products and goods to be marketed through this huge growing company.
